Round 5: Tossup 4
Guidelines for medical management of this condition are given in a document known as MARSIPAN. This condition was described in 1873 by William Gull, who had treated an early patient with this condition named “Miss A.” Hilde Bruch’s book The Golden Cage studied the “enigma” of this condition, which is the most common to be treated via the Maudsley Method. This condition, which is similar to a condition called ARFID, had a “mirabilis” type that affected Catherine of Siena and Wilgefortis during the Middle Ages. This condition is often considered to have the highest mortality of all psychiatric conditions, partly due to refeeding syndrome. For 10 points, name this condition characterized by a restriction of energy intake, often contrasted with bulimia nervosa. ■END■
